Application of Finite Difference Method for the Numerical Solution of Elliptic Equations

Abstract

In this paper, finite difference method (FDM) is applied to obtain the numerical solution of elliptic equations. The standard discrete finite difference schemes (forward, central and backward) are used for difference approximations and resulting equations are compared with different mesh sizes. The tridiagonal matrices derived were solved using MATLAB. The results obtained show that Finite Difference Method is very efficient in solving elliptic equations
