Ensete gilletii (family: Musaceae) have been used ethno-medicinally for the treatment of diarrhoea and dysentery. The Crude ethanol leaf extracts was subjected to chromatography which led to the isolation of one carboxylic acid. Characterization and structural elucidation of the carboxylic acid was based on the physical and spectroscopic data (GC-MS, IR, UV, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, DEPT - 135°) and literature data. The purification of the crude ethanol leaf extract of Ensete gilletii led to the isolation of carboxylic acid, identified as 2-(1,3,5-trihydroxy-7,7,15-trimethylheneicosanyl)benzoic acid.
