The Effect of Incomplete Mixing on a Cubic Autocatalytic Reaction Model

Abstract

The effect of incomplete mixing on a cubic autocatalytic reaction model with linear decay in a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) is studied. The model comprises a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equation which describes the autocatalytic behavior of two chemicals (a reactant and an autocatalyst) flowing into the CSTR. When the system is affected by incomplete mixing, the concentration of the chemicals varies but then attains equilibrium state after a period of time. However, this depends on the adequate selection of resident time.
