Application of Model Forecasting to Generate Real Gross Domestic Product Data

Abstract

Bacteria as food borne pathogens in quality evaluation of goat milk from selected dairy farms within Kaduna North Local Government Area (LGA), Kaduna were investigated as a measure of food safety. A total of ten (10) samples of milk were collected in sterile sample bottles and screened for the presence of food-borne pathogens. The milk samples were analyzed with preference to proximate analysis of selected milk samples, total bacteria plate/ coliform counts, most probable number and antimicrobial susceptibility test using standard techniques. The results revealed the mean average proximate composition of goat milk to be 81.1, 0.7, 2.7, 3.1, 9.0 and 3.3 for percentage (%) moisture, ash, crude protein, crude fat, total carbohydrate contents respectively. The mean value of bacterial count and coliform count were 1.7 × 106 - 2.6 × 107 CFU/mL and 1.2 x106–2.4 x 107 estimated colonies respectively. The bacteria isolates were identified as Staphylococcus aureus (SA1), Salmonella sp (S1), Shigella. Sp (SS1), Eschericia coli (EC1) and Klebsiella. sp.(K1). All the bacteria isolates showed multi-drug resistance to more than two antibiotic drugs used, the isolates showed resistance to chloramphenicol, amoxicillin and sparfloxacin at concentrations of 30µg, 30µgand 10µg respectively. This study concludes that the quality of goat milk analyzed were poor and this could be attributed to unhygienic practices and poor animal husbandry at the farm level and these could predispose farmers, consumers and the public to risk of contracting milk-borne infections and associated bacterial resistances. It is therefore recommended that veterinarians, extension officers and all stakeholders should play their roles properly in order to ensure safe quality milk delivery to consumers.
