A Review of the Principles and Applications of Seismic Methods in Geophysical Prospecting with OpendTect in focus

Tsepav, M.T.

Abstract

Seismic methods are increasingly becoming the most reliable and efficient of all geophysical methods in studying the subsurface due to their higher resolution and flexibility in interpretation. The advancement in technology, culminating in the development of interpretation software has made seismic data interpretation very interesting with a commendable degree of accuracy. It is therefore, imperative to review some of the seismic methods that are mostly used in prospecting for minerals and other subsurface structures of geological and geophysical interest. In this review, we bring to fore the basic principles and applications of refraction and reflection seismic methods and elucidate how one of the most recent and proficient interpretation software for seismic data interpretation, the OpendTect could be used for interpretation of seismic data.
