Mobile Phone Cloning: A Conceptual Review

Abstract

Mobile phone cloning is the practice of taking the programmed information stored in a valid mobile phone and criminally programming the same information into another mobile phone. This cell phone piracy has become more prevalent in recent times and of course a matter of serious concern in the computing world since the rate at which it is used to commit crime is increasing at an alarming rate. Although, different detective measures such as duplicate location, velocity trap, radio fingerprint, usage pattern, call logs, smart pin code together with preventive measures such as phone password, creation of awareness on not to trust anybody, changing of password from time to time. Hackers are still having their ways and a lot of people are falling victim of this menace. This vulnerability of the unsuspecting phone users is due to the strong believed that those detective and preventive measures are strong enough to deter the hacker from lunching their attacks. From the review literature, it is obvious that the preventive and detective measures are not effective in stopping the hackers from their malicious activity; suggestion is therefore made on how hacker can be checked.
